This is our SOSPOP project for spring 2020. We are shedding light on the fact that mainstream & social media distract us from major global and political issues occurring. Our world is a ticking time bomb.
We are conducting interviews with SLAM students and teachers on both pop culture questions and politically/globally relevant questions. Our goal of this is to realize how easily people can answer the pop culture questions, and how most people take longer or don't know the answer to the others.
There are two major sources of the lack of education on our political and global issues. In San Leandro High, we are taught history for two full years and only are in Government class for one semester of high school. If students are interested in being politically aware/ active, they are not given the opportunity to be educated on our current government and the issues with it. The other reason is that social media/ pop culture tends to distract or blind us from the real-world problems occurring now.
